Previously, treatment of stretch marks and cellulite were painful (pulling, rolling, vacuuming, lasers, harsh chemicals) and sometimes messy (potions and oils rubbed on).  They were also unreliable, with high failure rates.  RF energy on the body has been used for over 70 years, and in the aesthetics field for over 15 years.  It is a tried-and-true technology with a long, proven safety record.  However, in the past, this type of energy has suffered from painfulness and irregular results.  First there were the monopolar systems, that used one pole for energy emission and a pad to complete the circuit.  Then bipolar systems using two poles did away with the pad, but the system still required higher amounts of energy to be effective due to its lack of focused energy.  This higher energy led to more pain.  If the patient could stand the pain well enough, the treatment would be effective.
